A Silver and purple enamel box set with a miniature.

A silver and purple enamel box set with a miniature to the lid.

This fine box is likely to have been made in Austria. The heavy gauge of silver is covered in lavish rich enamel on all surfaces of a pleasing colour which has delicate inset gold decoration. The box has canted corners and retains the original interior gilding. The top of the box is set with a removable hand painted miniature showing a Gallant and his lady in a rural setting. The miniature is mounted beneath bevel cut glass and is housed in a box formation which may be seen on the interior of the lid. This rare and beautiful box was made in around 1920. It is 10.5 cm long, 6.5 cm wide and stands 3 cm high (All measurements approximate). The box is in fine condition, showing only wear appropriate to its age and substance.
