A mid - late nineteenth century French silver gilt perfume bottle.

This fine and unusual perfume bottle is likely to have been produced in France in the mid-late noneteenth century. Designed to lie flat on a dressing table, it has the unusual feature of a blank glass centre through which the colour of the perfume may be observed, adding to the overall decorative effect . The unusual narrow clear areas at each side also contribute colour and translucency when the bottle is filled. The silver gilt is profusely engraved with neo classical and floral motifs which carry through to the domed hinged top. The bottle retains its original interior stopper.

This charming French silver gilt perfume bottle is 11 cm long, 4 cm at its widest point and 1.3 cm deep. (Measurements approximate). It is in fine condition, showing some wear to the gilding, appropriate to its age and substance. It has no damage and no restoration.
