Victorian mid nineteenth century tortoiseshell visiting card case.

This fine and impressive visiting card case was produced in the mid nineteenth century. Its unusual reeded form is composed of a carved wooden carcass to which a thin shaped veneer of tortoiseshell has been applied. The inner edges of the box have been decorated with ivory and it has been lined with red velvet. This delightful case has a blank cartouche applied to the top of the lid suitable for initials. The hinge of this case is firm and the lid closes well with a satisfying sharp click. It is suitable for the collector, or for use.

This mid nineteenth century Victorian tortoiseshell and ivory visiting card case is 10.2cm high, 7.8cm wide and 1.3cm deep. (Measurements approximate). It is in excellent condition, showing only light wear appropriate to its age and function. It has no damage and no restoration.
